The Horizon Image Data Browser

Sample Implementations

Horizon classes may be implemented in a variety of ways to meet the needs of the application. Here are a few examples of data browsers that have been assembled using horizon objects which you can run from our site with a Java-capable broswer (e.g. Netscape, Internet Explorer, HotJava).

See also the Release Notes for the current distribution. We are also starting a bug list.

Note to Netscape users: For best results, use Netscape 4.0 or better to view these applet. Some versions of Netscape 3.0 will experience problems while loading some of the applets.

CGImageBrowser
This applet is set up to browse computer graphics images (i.e. GIF, JPEG); it uses the GraphicsSelectionViewer allowing the user to select data voxels or regions for such operations as zooming. It also provides editable control of the appearance and location of the cursor graphics.

SciDat1: a Scientific Data Browser
This applet shows how our Zoom control panel can be attached to another Viewer for exploring images.

CoordDemoApplet
This is a demonstration of Horizon's support for world coordinate systems; when the information is available, a viewer can display coordinates of any voxel within a dataset.

FITSImageBrowser
This applet can browse FITS images, allowing user to select slices from the image cube, adjust the transfer function, view coordinates and data values, zoom, and more.

ADILBrowser
This demonstrates the use of a specialized Horizon browser applet that communicates with a cooperating server. This applet was created to browse the large images of radio sources that make up the NRAO VLA Sky Survey. Here are two examples:

The Simplest Viewer
This displays a simple GIF or JPEG image with no bells or whistles.

A Simple Viewer with Selection Capabilites
A simple viewer for GIF or JPEG images with basic selection capabilities.

Cursor Classes Demonstration
a demonstration of the Cursor and ROI (Region of Interest) classes with editable graphics.
